Live Theater + Robots and AI
“The Robot, The Spy, and The Love of AI” Debuts at Chain Winter One-Act Festival
The Chain Theatre is set to premiere "THE ROBOT, THE SPY, AND THE LOVE OF AI", a groundbreaking one-act play that fuses live theater with actual robotics and AI programming. Written by John Arthur Long and directed by Kirk Gostkowski, this innovative production will run for five performances as part of Program #1 at the 2025 Chain Winter One-Act Festival, opening February 14 and closing March 1.
The play delves into the dangers of AI and the timeless question of what it means to be human, blending comedy with sci-fi elements. Notably, it features the stage debut of the Unitree G2 Pro Quadruped Robot Dog, operated by Dariel Garcia with voice work by David Rey, bringing a surprisingly emotional dimension to the machine. The cast also includes Gabriel Rysdahl (The Better Sister) and Monica Park (SIMPATICO).
Gostkowski describes the production as an evolution from a simple experiment to a full-fledged performance, stating, "We've found a way to give the Unitree G2 Pro a personality. Seeing it live is an entirely different experience from watching a robot on screen."
