Explore Humanity's Future in "The Antiquities"

Playwright Jordan Harrison is set to premiere his latest work, "The Antiquities," at Playwrights Horizons in collaboration with the Vineyard Theatre and Goodman Theatre. Co-directed by David Cromer and Caitlin Sullivan, the play opens on February 4, 2025.

Spanning from 1816 to 2240, "The Antiquities" presents a series of scenes depicting humanity's evolution and its intricate relationship with technology. The narrative is framed as a museum exhibit curated by post-human, AI entities attempting to understand human nature and the factors leading to our potential downfall.

Harrison began writing the play in 2019, prior to the surge in discussions about artificial intelligence. Reflecting on the timing, he notes that while audiences today are more familiar with AI concepts, this familiarity enhances the play's relevance and impact.

Known for works like "Marjorie Prime" and "Maple and Vine", Harrison often delves into themes of memory, technology, and human connection. "The Antiquities" continues this exploration, offering a profound look at how technological advancements shape our understanding of humanity.
